Frank Hathaway is an ex-police officer turned private investigators, working with Luella Shakespeare at Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators. He is played by Mark Benton.

Biography Edit

Before Becoming a PI Edit

Frank used to be a police officer for the Arden constabulary, as a detective inspector, however left for 'early retirement'.

His last case was the Teddy Shrewsbury murder, which him and Christine Marlowe were investigating. They arrested his killer, Richard Herd, however, the evidence convicting him had been sent to a laboratory being investigated for contaminating evidence, so could no longer be accepted by the court. This hurdle, however, didn't hinder the investigation as soon after, new evidence, a toy spinner with Teddy's DNA on it, was found during a second search to convict Herd of Teddy's murder.

When Frank discovered that Christine had planted the evidence to assist in Herd's conviction, he explains that he would have done the same thing, and confessed to planting the evidence before Christine could be charged.

However, when Herd was killed in prison, the charge of planting evidence was kept internal. Frank was offered early retirement, and Christine got his job as DI.

After leaving the force, Frank became a private investigator, founding Hathaway: Private Investigator as well as eventually hiring Sebastian Brudenell, an out of work actor, as his receptionist.

Meeting Luella Shakespeare Edit

Frank met Luella Shakespeare when she hired him to investigate her fiance, Clive Brenton, who she believed was having an affair with his secretary, however when Frank pulls up information that Clive had many aliases and dating profiles, she ignores this information, firing Frank and continues with the wedding.

However, when Clive is murdered, Luella's bank accounts cleared and with Luella suspected of the murder, Frank is re-hired by Luella to prove her innocence, find who stole her money and discover who killed her husband.

After the case is solved, Frank is visited by Luella, who happens to bump into the bailiffs clearing out Frank's office. She agrees to pay off Frank's debts in return for investing in the business and becoming a partner. Frank reluctantly agrees.

Personality Edit

Frank is a lumbering and knowledgeable man who is also presented as having a caring side, especially when he risks his own career to protect Christine's livelihood reputation.
